If you, or anyone you know, is planning a Land’s End to John O’Groats adventure this year you will be making bookings for your accommodation.  Should you in fact be travelling on foot you will most likely be treading the Limestone way – it connects to the Pennine Way.  If that is the case you will pass within three hundred yards of your door.  A night here is comfortable and relaxing and   prepares you well for an easy next day to Edale before the rigours of the Pennine Way.

We have had several such travellors staying here.  Last May Carol Loader successfully completed the journey RUNNING!  She took 71 days staying here on her 28th day.  You can visit her website www.endtoendrunner.blogspot.com  May day28 and check what she has to say.

Carol also left the above message  in our guest book.  Marigold is mentioned but therein lies another story.  Watch our for her blog.

There are many local walks from the doorstep so you do not have to contemplate such a long journey but just come and enjoy what the Peak District has to offer for a weekend or perhaps a week when we could offer a specially reduced rate.  Do not forget we offer guided walks and packed lunches.

Highfield marmalade 2009

It is not only Paddington Bear who likes marmalade.  Most of our guests enjoy our good homemade variety.

The end of January beginning of February is the time to buy seville oranges so we have been busy in the kitchen making 20lbs of our favourite marmalade recipe.  After another session and another 20lbs we will be able to look at the larder shelf with great satisfaction and wonder just how long that will last.

Before it is all gone come and try some together with the blackcurrant jam we made last summer with fruit from the garden.
